Hard drive giant Seagate has taken the dramatic step of dropping eSys as a global distribution partner following its alleged refusal to co-operate with an audit of point of sale records. The US-based vendor has already ceased shipments of its products to eSys. This areal density represents an increase of more than two-and-a-half times the areal density of today's highest-capacity products. Lite-On IT see DVD burners as percentage of total ODD shipments up
Lite-On’s monthly shipment volume of ODDs has remained steady at 3.5-4.0 million units but the proportion for DVD burners has risen from less than 30% in the first half of this year to over 30% this quarter and is expected to attain 40% in the first or second quarter of 2006, the company pointed out. The increase in percentage of total ODD shipments for DVD burners was because prices of DVD burners have continually fallen to levels increasingly closer to those of Combo drives (CD-RW plus DVD-ROM) and CD-RW burners, Lite-On IT noted.
